Beautiful Feet

When Kardelen was just barely a toddler, I researched the benefits of soft-sole leather shoes for developing walkers. And I was convinced! But before I ordered Robeez, I thought I'd try to find a pattern online to make my own.

And I found Misty's. A stay-at-home mom herself, Misty offers a variety of patterns on her website, Make Them Yourself. She graciously worked with me through the whole process, answering all my questions, and even sent me a free replacement pattern after I lost mine when we changed computers. She also offers several ways you can get a free pattern from her.

They've been so much fun to make! Here are some results.

Kardelen's first pair:

(I made these on my great-grandmother's sewing machine. "Bertha Joy" did not enjoy it. Long story short, after these were made, I walked home with a new machine! We spend a LOT of time together, so it has turned out to be a good investment as we'd hoped.)

When Kardelen outgrew those, these "dragonfly shoes" were born. (Lindsey gave us a stack of gorgeous leather for these!)

Of course, Sofia needed a Mommy-made pair, too:

And so did one of Kardelen's best friends, Joy:

Because I like Misty's site so much, I'm putting a link to it in the side column of this blog. Check it out!

I hadn't seen the butterfly ones! So beautiful! Even though I have lots of little boy pairs leftover from Jer I plan to make Justus a special pair of his own someday (maybe in 6 months *s*).
