And the Winner is. . .

Forest green! Thanks for your great ideas for making the entry to our new home more attractive. My apologies to those who tried to vote yesterday and couldn't. That was a little glitch on my account, as I set up the poll to close a few days ago and forgot to extend it. Now I'm looking forward to painting the door forest green--it will look terrific! We even bought numbers to make a "#10" sign to hang next to the door (painted in coordinating colors, of course!), to make it even more distinct from the home on the upper level.

It will probably be next week before we break out the paintbrushes, since today we had an answered prayer and are now expecting visitors! No, we're not pregnant with twins. :) I'd been praying all week for a full-size mattress for our guest room, knowing that my parents are coming this weekend and they would stay if we had a bed for them. Today God answered our prayer! I mentioned it to Bob and Julie (our landlords and friends) today and they offered us a very comfortable one, which they even delivered! Now I get to prepare for our first "real" overnight guests (excepting those who stayed with us in the trailer, either sleeping on the floor or in a recliner--bless your dear souls!).

We've already planned a few special touches for them, like a basket of fresh towels, a vase of sunflowers from our garden, and a bag of dark chocolate almonds on their pillow that says Sweet Dreams. The girls and I also decorated bottles of lotion and body wash for them last week. We used stamps, markers, and photo stickers to cover the labels with homemade ones that say Nana's Sweet Dreams Lotion and Papa's Scrubby Dubby Body Wash.

I am so very excited for our first overnight guests, and want to make their stay special. How do you make your guests feel at home? Please post a comment and share with us!

Cute cute! I think the forest green door will look lovely!

I often do the chocolates on the pillow and try to have a lamp and an alarm clock by the bed, a candle or potpourri to make the room smell fresh and of course lots of fancy kitchen treats that we don't normally have like homemade cinnamon rolls or pop and fancier meals.

If I'm feeling really ambitious I hang the blankets outside for a fresh outdoorsy smell and wash the sheets with a hint of lavendar scent. I try to make sure their room is clean and inviting and well-decorated.

I haven't been able to have "real" guests for a while either so I understand why you are excited!

Thanks for your ideas, Mrs. Jo, especially the candles and potpourri. Yum!
